Holi marks a time of renewal and reconnection to family, friends and joyful traditions. This Holi, join us and our 2024 Artist as Healer, Alisha Lettman, as we rehydrate our kinship with the land, celebrate the coming of Spring and the beginning of the planting season.
Through the medium of South Asian ancestral arts, knowledge and traditions, journey into the past-present-future as we consider our community’s response to climate change and our role in the earth’s evolution.
We will start the night rooting our feet to the land with an exploration of climate change and honouring the wisdom of plants with Rita Kompst, weaver and artist from Musqueam.
We will then immerse in the soundscape of Hindustani Khayal renditions of Holi and Punjabi Folk songs presented by the Kalavani Institute, led by Akhil Jobanputra.
The evening will end with an original Kathak piece by Palak Dhiman, telling the story of plants, flowers, animals, celestial bodies, and the elements, depicting a rich vocabulary for humans to more deeply understand our relationship with the environment.
With traditional holi snacks and gifts of wisdom from the artist as healer studio, you will leave deeply nourished and inspired to enact reciprocity with the land.
