Baljit Sangra
Baljit Sangra is an award-winning, Vancouver-based filmmaker whose films shine a light on underrepresented and marginalized voices and stories. Sangra’s films have routinely premiered at festivals around the world.
Her most high profile project was Because We Are Girls, a feature documentary for the NFB that explores the impact of sexual abuse on a Punjabi family in BC. The film premiered at Hot Docs, opened DOXA Film Festival, and is now streaming on Amazon with over 18 million minutes viewed.
Her recent film Have You Heard Judi Singh? premiered at DOXA 2025, shining a light on an overlooked Punjabi/Black jazz trailblazer from the 1960s. Other credits include Mareya Shot, Keetah Goal: Make the Shot (Telus Originals/TVO), and the award-winning Warrior Boyz, Many Rivers Home, Have You Forgotten Me?, and Hockey United: Punjabi.
