Zakir Hussain is the world’s most acclaimed tabla player and a lifelong musical and cultural bridge-builder whose collaborators have ranged from Ravi Shankar to Jerry Garcia, Yo-Yo Ma to John McLaughlin.
In this special arrangement with San Francisco’s SFJAZZ, Indian Summer presents the online Canadian Premiere of Zakir Hussain’s concert ‘Alone Together’ recorded at their beautiful SFJAZZ Center. Here, Zakir Hussain, who usually plays to sold-out venues, occupies an empty concert hall and returns to the most primary and profound musical relationship – himself and the instrument that has been his life.
Hussain performs solo and is joined virtually by special guests collaborating in real-time from different parts of the world – Grateful Dead legend Mickey Hart and bansuri virtuoso Rakesh Chaurasia. The event begins with a special interview with the maestro, exclusive to ISF2021 and virtually hosted at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.
*N.B. Video on Demand/Replay: We encourage you to join us for the Event Premiere for interactive live elements like chat. If you miss the Event Premiere, the replay will be available from 12 pm noon Sunday June 27th, 2021 for a one time watch per pass/ticket until midnight on July 17th, 2021
