Tonye Aganaba (Moderator)

Tonye Aganaba is a queer Black-British immigrant to Turtle Island, an interdisciplinary visual artist and musician unearthing themselves, and living carefully on the unceded ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsliel- Waututh First Nations. Their musical style is dynamic and fluid – weaving playful threads of Soul, Neo-Folk, Funk, Hip-Hop and R&B. Tonye co-create spaces/containers that are connected and intimate, always in search of what bell hooks called “beloved community”. Today Tonye is bringing to life an interdisciplinary body of exciting new work, blending artistic practice and their passion for community organizing.

You can find them organizing with Defund 604 Network, Community Accountability Project, Ethos Lab, and Cops Out Of Schools – four collectives based in so-called Vancouver that are dedicated to creating safe and healthy spaces for all.
