Cross-Pollinations with Major Cultural Institutions

Partnership with the Vancouver Art Gallery

Our partnership with the Vancouver Art Gallery in 2016 was one of our most comprehensive. Centred around BHARTI KHER Matter, the first ever solo exhibition by an Indian artist at the Vancouver Art Gallery, we curated FUSE, Vancouver’s favourite art party, taking over the Vancouver Art Gallery after-hours and turning into a site for music, projection and live performance for an audience of thousands. We also co-curated Family FUSE Weekend, featuring two days of family-friendly workshops and performances at the Gallery with Iocal and international ISF artists. And we took art to the streets in a joint public art project with Bharti Kher turning a Translink bus into a mobile artwork for a two-month run.

A message from Diana Freundl, Associate Curator, Asian Art, Vancouver Art Gallery

“Our first collaboration with Indian Summer Festival was with Reena Saini Kallat’s piece for Offsite, the Gallery’s public art space, in 2015. A more elaborate partnership was established during the exhibition BHARTI KHER Matter this year. The Gallery’s intercultural programming has been enriched through a wider engagement with Vancouver’s South Asian communities enabled through the advisory and successful public activities implemented with the Indian Summer Festival. Our greatest achievements have come while working together with other organizations, as can be seen from our continued partnership with ISF.”
