Subhankar Banerjee
Subhankar Banerjee is a highly acclaimed classical tabla virtuoso. He has consistently impressed audiences with his versatile manner and improvisational dexterity. A favourite accompanist of many of India’s greatest musicians and dancers, he’s performed alongside Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, and more.
Starting at the age of four, he learned to play the instrument from Benaras Gharana, Pt. Manik Das and Pt. Swapan Shiva of Farukhabad Gharana, and is now considered a brilliant tabla player by musicians and supporters all around the world.
Ranked by All India Radio as the youngest “Top Grade Tabla Player,” he has performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, the Festival of India in Brazil, the Asian Fantasy Concert in Japan, and in South Africa and London. He’s collaborated with John McLaughlin, Chico Freeman, Gil Goldstein, and Ross Daly, and contributed to the music for several Hollywood movies. His latest “Sacred Drums of India” is one the most successful rhythm bands performing globally.
