The Critical Lens
Fatima Jaffer is a Kenyan born-and raised, Vancouver-based journalist and editor. She’s currently working on her PhD dissertation titled In the Queer Shadows of Empire at the University of British Columbia, and is he co-editor of an academic anthologyBeyond The Queer Alphabet: Conversations on Gender, Sexuality & Intersectionality. She’s also the co-coordinator of the Global Queer-Critique Research Graduate Network at UBC’s Liu Institute for Global Research. Among various community activisms, she sat on the City of Vancouver’s first-ever LGBTQ2+ Advisory Committee and has been the facilitator of Trikone Vancouver, a socio-political group representing about 145 South Asian LGBTQIs in the Lower Mainland, since its inception in 2005.She’s the former editor of Canada’s national feminist newspaper Kinesis, and was a founding member and staff of Vancouver’s South Asian Women’s Centre (1992-2008). She currently coordinates the Coalition of South Asian Women Against Violence.
