FESTIVAL THEME: BORDER CROSSINGS

DAYS: 10

EVENTS: 19

ARTISTS: 108

ATTENDEES: 11,105

As the world builds more walls and societies grow increasingly suspicious of those who look or think differently, we continue to believe in the transformative power of the arts. Indian Summer Festival is our way of reaffirming this belief.

In line with the 2016 theme, Border Crossings, a stellar lineup—from Oscar-winning filmmakers to emerging young writers—brought the theme to life. This edition recognized that borders are not only geographic, but also linguistic, religious, racial, sexual, emotional, psychological, and culinary.

Indian Summer 2016 created a space to explore these intersecting boundaries—a place to meet the other. Through each event, audiences engaged with the struggles and resilience behind many kinds of border crossings, and discovered that the most powerful creativity often lives at the edges.
